Finding the Being Within: A Letter to my Daughter

Dear Hikari,

I don't even know if I can put it into words... but let me try this here and now.

On this day, you've decided to join the world. You've arrived much sooner than any of us had previously anticipated, and for that both your mother and I absolutely adore you already.

Sixteen months ago, our life changed. The little handsome gentleman who came to meet you earlier and waved at you while you were sleeping had become our first-born-son. His name is "Kai", and he will soon come to form part of one of the closest and most important relationships you will have in your life. Look out for him, for I guarantee you that he will always look out for you as your older brother.

I remember the day he entered this world very vividly. After all, it marked the beginning of a beautiful and incredibly fulfilling and challenging new chapter in the story of my life: I became a "father". I've learned a LOT since that day, but the learning curve of this journey is never-ending. The journey after all, is the lesson in itself.

Fortunately, I've come to realize early on, that in more ways than one, it is you guys who end up doing most of the teaching and guidance for us parents.

Make no mistake about it, I am far from being perfect... and there are plenty of things that I'm yet to learn about being a "Dad" to a little lady like yourself...

All you need to know, is that I promise you

to always give the best of myself,

to make sure that you and your brother

are able to live a life

that will forever light up your faces

each time you recall the memories

that together

we will make and share.
