July 1st: A Few Reasons Why Today is Extra Special

One of the things I like most about living on this side of the world is the fact that I get to welcome each day/date prior to most of the people I know around the globe. This is my third time celebrating "CANADA DAY" abroad since my family and I officially became Canadian in 2005, but today's "July 1st" is particularly "special" due to a number of reasons.

For starters, my son Kai, who automatically became "Kainidian" the minute he was born here in Japan, got to experience a bit of Canadian pride for the first time. As if that wasn't good enough to consider today a special day, my parents happen to be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary (and 38th years together) today as well.

In addition, the future of México, my country of birth, is currently being decided as fellow citizens across the nation exercise their right to vote during the "Presidential Elections". It must be said that though my family and I left Mexico almost twelve years ago in the pursuit of our dreams and aspirations, we are proud to have spent a significant amount of our lifetimes living there and hope nothing but the best for our country in spite of the many challenges it faces. Regardless of where we are now or where we will go, we will always carry Mexico with us. I'm proud to have been born there and frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Another noteworthy event happening today is the Euro Cup Football Final between Italia and España. I mention this in passing simply because most sports' fans around the globe will be tuning in later tonight to witness this final match, and if La Roja being lead by Iker Casillas manages to win it again, their victory will be making it into the record books. As the proud grandson of Españoles, this feat would make me as happy as it would to all of my relatives back in México and España alike.

Finally, and without a doubt the most epic reason why today is such a special day is that in a matter of hours, my brother, Iñaki will officially be named a member of Canada's Olympic Team in Calgary, Alberta, entitling him as an OLYMPIAN athlete. Thus, transforming his lifelong dream into a reality, and making me one of the proudest brothers a person could wish for.

Stoked to see you in London Iñaki!!!

Ergo, today is a special day.
 No question.
Hope you get to enjoy it no matter where you currently find yourselves in.
Cheers!

Like a Boss.
